PASTORAL PLANNING
The Archdiocese of Boston is moving toward a plan for the whole Catholic community which will involve the uniting of parishes into groups. The necessity for this is the massive decline in attendance at Mass and the fall in the number of priests. The plan is now being explained to clergy and other ministers and has gone so far as to have offered the proposal of uniting all parishes in various configurations. Our parish is being proposed to be configured with St. Bridget’s in Abington and Holy Ghost in Whitman.

The Archdiocese insists that this is just a proposal; however it is clear that the decline in the Archdiocese will demand some such configuration for every parish. I am gathering the staff and the Parish Council and the Finance Committee to discuss this proposal in depth and to offer our response to their idea that we and Abington and Whitman should be grouped together. I will keep you informed as to what is happening, what our responses to the proposal will be and what the next steps will be.
