Jim O'Driscoll: "Though named after St Athanasius (AD 293-373), who championed our faith in the Trinity, the Athanasian Creed was probably put together in the 5th-6th centuries AD by unnamed authors in the Latin West, maybe in North Africa or Spain. This Creed so celebrated by the Catholic Church (and by Lutherans and Anglicans and other Western Trinitarian Christians as well) makes more explicit many of the teachings of the more familiar Nicene (Constantinopolitan) Creed we proclaim on Sunday Mass....”
