Family Notes Fr. James F. Hickey REFLECTIONS OF A 16 YEAR OLD – A CHOICE FOR NON-VIOLENCE They say that life is heartless and it isn’t afraid to hurt anyone. They also say “be ready for anything”. I myself have been told that as long as you don’t stick your nose where it doesn’t belong, then people will respect you… because you always get what you deserve… I learned that was not true. There are people that don’t abide by those rules. The day will forever be in my memory as long as I live due to the emotions that ran through my head. It was May 11, 2010, between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM. My family and I had recently moved to a new location within the neighborhood and I needed some house keys for our new place. My mother gave me her keys and so I headed off to make a copy of them. I traveled to 47 th and Wood to a local store which sold copies of keys. After getting my copy, I left and walked down the street to my home.As I headed off home, I heard these two guys say “hey homes where u goin?” ...
