Blessing of the Throats
In honor of the Feast of Saint Blaise, we Catholics have preserved and revered a devotion, the Blessing of the Throats: “Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God preserve you from all diseases of the throat and every other evil, in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.” We welcome everyone to enjoy this sacramental after all the Masses
the weekend of February 5.

WORLD DAY OF THE SICK
February 11, 2012
The Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes
Since 1992, the Catholic Church has celebrated World Day of the Sick on February 11 – the day on which the Church commemorates the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes – under the sponsorship of the Pontifical Council for Health Pastoral Care. World Day of the Sick has three consistent themes.
First, it reminds the faithful to pray intensely and sincerely for those who are sick. Second, the celebration invites Christians to reflect on and respond to human suffering. And third, this day recognizes and honors all persons who work in health care and serve as caregivers.

Prayer cards for the sick, the caregivers and a guide for the Catholic patient entering a hospital are available in the foyer of the Main Church.

CHANGES to the words of our mass
This Advent we English speaking Catholics around the world will experienced some changes in the language of our Mass prayers. The fundamental reason for altering words, as I discern it, is loyalty. That is, words are important. They must loyally convey, as well as possible, “the faith that was once and for all handed down to the holy ones.” (Letter to Jude 3). For the Church to continue to be “the pillar and foundation of the truth”, as Saint Paul teaches (I Timothy 3:15) language needs sometimes to be “fine tuned”. Since it is forty years since the Second Vatican Council put our liturgy into our vernacular, the bishops of the English speaking world and the Vatican have arrived at some new translations and new prayers for the Roman Missal so that “the faith” may be handed on and we may both pray and live for the greater glory of God. God bless! JFH   See also:  Changes In Our Liturgy
