Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

I remind you all, as I have been doing at Masses that everyone runs into someone from time to time who attacks the Church or the Lord Jesus, but who may really be looking for both. Saint Peter encourages, “Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence, keeping your conscience clear….” (I Peter 3: 15-16). An aid to everyone’s explaining the Faith can be the Catechumenate Program which will soon be starting here at Holy Family. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) or the Catechumenate offers a stepping stone entrance into the divine mystery of Jesus Christ. I often say to folks considering it that if you only stay for ten weeks you will learn how to use and enjoy the Bible, have a clearer understanding of Jesus and salvation in Him, have a chance to learn to pray and be able to navigate the various parts of a Sunday Mass.

So anyone who is not a Christian, or a Christian who though baptized is not in full union with Christ’s Catholic Church, or a Catholic who hasn’t received some of his/her sacraments or even a Catholic feeling uninformed or especially, someone coming back to Church and feeling ‘out of it’, will find the Catechumenate the very process by which our Faith can be explained. Catechumenate will begin after Labor Day. So keep your ears and hearts open. Holy Spirit may use you to guide someone to the Lord and His Holy Church. And thank you for your willingness to be an instrument of Christ’s peace.  JFH

Maybe you have found yourself drawn to the Church and the sacraments. Maybe you were baptized in the Catholic Church but never made your First Communion or were never Confirmed, or maybe you know someone who is interested in becoming a Catholic. Our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) might be just what you are looking for. The program is designed to help you grow in your knowledge and love of Jesus Christ and His Church. We will be starting this year’s program in September which will culminate at next year’s Easter Vigil.

The catechumenate is a program designed for non-Catholics who may be interested in learning about the Catholic faith and perhaps becoming a Catholic, or for Catholics who have not yet received the Sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation.

We learn about prayer, faith and Jesus. We learn about scripture and try to relate it to our lives today. We explain the Tradition of the Catholic Church and its importance. We explain the wonderful gifts we receive from God in the Sacraments. We explore what our response to God should be for the love He gives to us. But most of all, we try to encourage each persons to know God and to develop a personal relationship with him.

We meet every Thursday evening from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., September until May and for the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday.

Just your time and an open mind and heart.

That’s fine! You are more than welcome to just ‘come and see’ what we are all about. We don’t ask you to make any decisions right away. You can continue at your own pace or leave anytime you want. This is a decision to be made between you and God
