Liturgical Ministries

Altar Servers

Young people in the 4th grade and older are eligible to serve God and the parish through the Altar Service Ministry.  It is an honor and a privilege to be an altar server and it is one of the ways that young people can use their time and talents in service to the Church. As a server, you get to witness the majesty and Mystery of the Mass up close!

Altar servers assist the priest during the celebration of the Mass in a variety of ways:
•    Lighting the candles before Mass.
•    Carrying the cross, candles and thurible for incensing at the procession and recession.
•    Holding the liturgical books for the priest to lead prayers throughout the Mass.
•    Serving the priest during the Liturgy of the Eucharist, including ringing the bells during Consecration.

Altar Servers are required to attend Mass regularly. Training is mandatory in the Fall for new servers and siblings may serve Mass together.

Children's Liturgy

Children’s Liturgy at Holy Family is an opportunity for our young people to hear the Word of God during the 10:00 AM Sunday Mass each week.

During the Liturgy of the Word:
•    Children are invited into the Sacristy (parent’s may accompany their children if desired).
•    The Sunday’s Gospel is read from the Children’s Lectionary.
•    An adult volunteer leads a discussion with the children about the meaning of the gospel and how it relates to their life.
•    Children are then led in reciting the Nicene Creed and Prayers of the Faithful.
•    Children are encouraged to share their own prayer intentions with the group.
•    Children return to their families during the Offertory.

Requirements:
•    All Children's Liturgy volunteers attend one session of VIRTUS® Protecting God's Children, sign a Code of Conduct and complete a yearly CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) form as mandated by the Archdiocese of Boston.
